Martial Way Kempo Jiujitsu is a unique blend of traditional movement patterns, combat sports skills, and self-defense techniques. Curriculum is taught in a 6-month rotation of the following categories of skills:
Month One: Punch and Kick Defense. Students practice defensive and countering skills against typical striking attacks. Striking is one of the more common types of assault. Our students learn to slip, evade, intercept and nullify and counter punches, kicks, and impact weapon attacks.
Month Two: Wrist Grab Defense. Students practice escapes and counters to being grabbed by the arm or wrist. This is a common, potentially lower-level of force attack. Our students learn to adopt a defensive posture when facing aggression. One possible response to this is for an attacker to grab the arm or wrist. Our students learn to defend, escape, and counter common wrist and arm grabs.
Month Three: Choke Defense. Students learn to prevent, defend, escape, and counter common choking attacks. They also learn to apply chokes as a defensive countermeasure.
Month Four: Ground-fighting Defense. Students learn to defend themselves from a grounded position. The skills of Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu are used to help the student prevent being taken down. In the event they re unsuccessful, the same skills are used to help the student get back to their feet.
Month Five: Grappling Self- Defense. Students learn to defend against common grabbing attacks, such as shirt grabs, bear hugs, headlocks, etc. The objective is first to avoid, then to escape, and if necessary, to counter the attacker.
Month Six: Review. Students review and practice the previous five months’ of training.
