“Junior Leaders” acquire leadership and teaching skills and gain recognition for their accomplishments. Training directly with the head instructor, they learn to be effective teaching assistants and role models for the younger students.
Students must have the rank of blue belt or above. Junior leaders must take a two-hour course and pass a written test and a practical test in order to recieve their Junior Leader uniform patch. They then must commit one hour per week in addition to their regular classes, to observe, assist, and eventually help instruct the younger students.
Benefits
There is a high level of status associated with this position. Junior Leaders, who are taught that “the best way to lead is by example”, are given recognition for what they have achieved. They gain a sense of pride and purpose as they learn to help run the younger children’s classes. Over the years some have even gone on to hold part-time jobs here at Martial Way.
