Tournament for Junior BJJ Students

Conifer Clash poster

On May 16 in Hardwick, Vermont, our students have the opportunity to participate in a Jiu-Jitsu competition. The “Conifer Clash” is a good tournament for beginners because it prohibits any type of submission techniques (chokes, joint-locks, etc). It’s also nearby and more affordable than most competitions. Questions? Please email Sensei Quinlan.

Register for Summer Camp

Martial Way Self-Defense Center, Colchester, Vermont

Martial Way’s Martial Arts Camps for children (ages 7 through 14) provide fun mornings of engaging physical activity. Children respond to the action and excitement of the martial arts, while parents appreciate the discipline, focus, and important life skills it teaches.

Camp is open to students of Kempo Karate or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu,  as well as to those with no experience at all.

Adult Classes in May

Our plans for Martial Way’s adult programs in May include the following:

  • In our Adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Program, all classes continue to train for Martial Way’s Jiu-Jitsu Challenge Night on Wednesday, May 20. Challengers should become familiar with the Positional Hierarchy Chart.
  • The Adult Kempo Program will…   For details, please review our Kempo Curriculum.

See you at the dojo and on the mat! Osu

Warmer weather brings new flexibility for families, exciting summer programs, and fresh opportunities for children and teens to grow through martial arts training.

David Quinlan Shifu Martial Ways Vermont

As Vermont heads into the warmer months, families become busier with sports, travel, and outdoor activities. At Martial Way VT, we understand that schedules change in spring and summer, which is why we’re introducing more flexibility and more opportunities for students to stay active, keep learning, and continue progressing.

Open Mat on Fridays

Martial Way’s Open Mat is available every Friday from 5pm to 7pm. This is a great opportunity for making up missed classes, and is also good for those who may just want some extra training. Designed for all of our members, please drop in at a time specific to your class. Click for the full Open Mat Schedule and keep practicing!

Spring Schedule Flexibility Now in Effect

From now until the end of the school year, several youth programs are offering more flexible attendance options. Students enrolled in eligible levels may attend any appropriate class times that fit their schedule.

Programs currently offering flexible scheduling include:

  • Little Dragons
  • Tiny Tigers
  • Junior Beginner Kempo
  • Junior and Teen Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
  • Intermediate Junior (except Saturday 10:30 AM)
  • All Ranks Teen (except Saturday 10:30 AM)

This helps families balance martial arts training with spring sports, school events, and busy calendars.

Unlimited Summer Training Begins in June

Once school lets out, even more flexibility begins.

Summer scheduling opens up for all children’s programs, allowing students to attend appropriate classes with expanded access throughout the season.

That means:

  • Kempo students may attend additional classes within their level
  • Junior BJJ students enjoy expanded access
  • Students enrolled in both programs can maximize summer training opportunities

Summer is one of the best times for students to improve quickly because they can train more consistently.

Junior and Teen Kempo Curriculum Update

We’re also excited to return Junior and Teen Kempo to a rotating curriculum format.

This teaching model allows students to:

  • Improve execution of core forms and techniques
  • Spend more time refining skills
  • Learn a wider variety of drills and training methods
  • Stay engaged with fresh material throughout the summer
